RE: Locking a King Pin Stabilizer Jack

My kingpin stabilizer was made by Olympian, a division of Camco, and I’ve been very happy with it. As was stated earlier, the cup which fits around the kingpin has two holes for the insertion of a padlock. The padlock prevents the stabilizer from being removed from the kingpin and may deter or at least slow down a thief trying to steal your 5er.

RE: New to 5th wheeling

Here are a couple things to consider getting: Fifth Wheel Lube Plate and BedSaver.

RE: Leveling boards

I use Lynx Levelers. They’re more expensive than boards, but they’re lightweight and very versatile. You can get a 10-pack for about $30 at the Super Wally Worlds.

RE: RV Parts

I'm sure 96Bounder30E has the right place. I've passed there several times. I'm going to bookmark their website for future reference.

RE: Where to keep dirty laundry?

We have a collapsible mesh laundry basket that we keep in a cabinet that was intended for an optional washer/dryer.

RE: Tire wear

I had excessive wear on the outside of my front passenger-side tire. Turned out it was a bent axle spindle. The shop told me that a bent axle spindle usually causes wear on the inside, so mine was an exception to the general rule.

RE: How do you know ??

You should be able to hear your water heater when the electric element is heating the water. I can hear mine under the sink and also outside at the access panel. I only turn on the gas switch if I don’t have an electric hookup and I never turn off the outside switch on the heater.

RE: Fridge?

You might want to consider getting a Fridgecool Fan to keep the air circulating so the temperature is evened out in the box.

RE: Camp Club USA

We've been very happy with our membership, which paid for itself on our first campground stay. Each member campground has its own restrictions, but this information is listed in the annually printed guide and the Camp Club USA website. To see the restrictions, you have to look at the individual campground’s listing. Some campgrounds have no restrictions, other limit the number of nights per stay or the months of the year or the days of the week.

RE: Lifting 5er to change tires

I use the Bowser SmartJak. It’s a ramp and makes changing a tire easy. If you use a bottle jack, place it under the frame, so that you don’t bend or crack your axle. My axles are made by Lippert Components and their manual says, “Warning: Lift unit by the frame and never the axle or suspension.” (Presumably, that includes the U-bolt.)

RE: Proper procedure for plugging into a 50 amp service

I agree with yakman. I always test the park pedestal with my Digital AC Voltage and Polarity Tester before I start leveling and setting up my 5er. When I’m ready to connect my cord, I turn the pedestal breaker off until I've connected both ends.

RE: trailers a rockin' ???

Here's the way I make my 5er rock solid every time: after I’ve leveled side to side, I tighten my BAL Deluxe Locking Tire Chocks between both sets of tires, level front to back with the landing gear, install my tripod stabilizer, and then lower the rear stabilizers.

RE: Slider hitch needed with extended pin box?

It depends on what price you put on piece of mind. I have a short box and an extended pin, and I use mine all the time. For my money, it’s cheap insurance, as is a BedSaver.

RE: Drinking water hoses

I use Water Hose Storage Caps that I bought at Camping World. They are designed to fit on both ends of the hose and have small holes to allow it to dry out.

RE: new to calgon

Hi, I can't seem to find calgon in my area (SE MO) what does it look like, in what section of the store/walmart can it be found. is there another name for it?
thanks!I bought it today at my Super Wally World for $4.27, but it wasn't easy to spot. I found it in the area with fabric softeners. It's a white, plastic container with a blue label that has a rainbow on it. It looks like this. Happy hunting!

RE: Ameri_Camp Fifth Wheel Trailers

I believe Ameri-Camp is a rental trailer...
I’m not sure where you got that idea, but it's not correct.
My Ameri-Camp 5er was highly rated by the RV Consumer Group, which is an independent, nonprofit organization that's been rating RVs for over 20 years. So far I’ve been very happy with it.

RE: Fifthwheel Hitches; Maintenance and troubleshooting

I had the same problem the first few times I used my 16K. Sometimes it would open with almost no effort, other times it wouldn't. I called Reese and was told that the jaws are designed to stay shut if there is any forward pressure on them. I was told to chock the 5er tires, put the truck in reverse, lightly touch the gas, and then put on the brake. This takes the forward pressure off and allows the jaws to open easily every time. I've never had another problem since that conversation. BTW, Reese also said that taking weight off the hitch by lowering the landing gear has nothing to do with opening the jaws--it’s all about relieving the forward pressure.
